EV Charger Levels
Level 1 EV Chargers
When you purchase an EV, it will come with standard Level 1 chargers, which are your typical plug-and-play household option. They are the most widely available type of EV charging and run on a 110–120 volt system, much like your home outlets.
Level 1 chargers are affordable and convenient, making them an ideal fit for anyone who can park and charge their car for 8-12 hours daily.
- Voltage: 110–120V
- Average charge rate: 8–15 km per hour
While Level 1 chargers will suffice for most residents, those who require a faster charge need to consider a Level 2 charger.
Level 2 EV Chargers
Level 2 EV chargers are twice as strong as level 1 chargers and provide faster charging. These chargers, which have a power of about 240V, improve the daily convenience of owning an EV by reducing charge times.
- Voltage: around 240V
- Average charge rate: 40–100 km per hour
Your home's electrical system may need upgrades to effectively handle the increased power consumption from a level 2 charger. Our skilled electricians can determine whether an update is required and can complete the job with the least amount of disturbance.
Level 3 DC Fast Chargers
Finally, we have the top-of-the-line chargers. DC Fast Chargers are a game-changer for EV users who are always on the go and cannot afford to wait long for their vehicles to charge.
These sturdy stations provide an electrical charge at an industrial voltage of more than 400V, a remarkable rate that surpasses the combined power of Levels 1 and 2.
- Voltage: Industrial strength, above 400V
- Average charge rate: 100 km of range in less than 10 minutes
DC Fast chargers have high power requirements and are not often installed at residences. Instead, they can be found at charging stations or parking lots.
